GOSSIP GIRL EXCLUSIVE – 5.01 is “Yes, Then Zero”
By Felicity Waldorf. Filed in Spoilers |Tags: Episode Titles
Attention Upper East Siders! Season 5’s premiere episode will be called YES, THEN ZERO.
The title is based on yet another film by former brat packer, now Gossip Girl director, Andrew McCarthy: LESS THAN ZERO.

LESS THAN ZERO is a 1987 film about affluent Los Angeles teens, based on the novel by Bret Easton Ellis. “Clay (Andrew McCarthy) is a college freshman who returns home during Christmas break. Clay’s old flame Blair (Jamie Gertz) is now more interested in her new beau Julian (Robert Downey, Jr.), the fun-loving party boy with a penchant for drugs. While Clay tries to rekindle a thing with Blair, Julian becomes addicted to cocaine and starts freebasing. Julian’s friends try halfheartedly to intervene, with no success. Soon he is so far in debt to drug dealer Rip (James Spader) that Julian becomes a male prostitute, whoring for enough money for his next fix.”
Ex-girlfriends, drug habits, former best friends? Now THIS sounds like the Gossip Girl we know and love.
“Yes, Then Zero” will air on September 26, 2011. Let the speculations begin.
Many thanks to the Gossip Girl Writers for this exclusive. XOXO.
The female character is called Blair??? Seriously??? LOL But this does sound like Old School Gossip Girl. Yay for season 5!
Wow thanks for this! Heh, I just read the book a couple of months ago. Not really sure how I feel about this. Hope the writers are just using the title and not actually taking things from the book, cause those kids were pretty messed up. Crossing my fingers that they don’t have Julian in mind for any Chuck sl.
wow… the title makes me think of Blair accepting the wedding proposal first (as we already knew) and then having a hard time organizing the event…
Thanks F. The movie description is kind of confusing so it will be interesting to see how it relates to Gossip Girl. Can’t wait to watch the LA scenes with CSN.
An episode title so soon?! It’s been ages since I read the book and seen the movie but I think this could definitely be GG material, in a less hardcore way ofc. Interesting.
now the good question is, who is the addicted and who will help him or her, i am smelling serena amd nate and the reason to stay in la longer
But in this episode it’s going to be about Serena Chuck & Nate, they’re the 3 in L.A
no lo puedo creer que chuck no c qede con blair osea como eso no es posible ese si era amor buuuuu asi ya no cuenta nada si ellos no estan juntos
I don’t think its much about a rekindling of love between two characters or a drug addiction, but if it is I wouldn’t be suprised. I think its just the title that’s significant
Can’t wait for the new season!
you are very stupid! Gossip Girl is based on eponymous book series. Why would you think that the script writers would use anything from “Less than Zero”?!
Go back to watching Cartoon Network!
…Every episode title is based on a different movie, and oftentimes story lines in that episode correlate to plots from the book. (ie; “Bonfire of the Vanity” had one character contemplating writing a piece that could destroy another’s life, much like the movie “Bonfire of the Vanities.”)
Also, please don’t insult other commenters.
