GOSSIP GIRL EXCLUSIVE – 5.02 is “Beauty and the Feast”

Ladies and gentlemen of the Upper East Side, we’ve just heard from the wonderful writers of Gossip Girl that episode 5.02 will be called BEAUTY AND THE FEAST. You can thank the writers for this tidbit by going to their twitter: @ggwriters.

Of course, everyone knows this title must be based on the Beauty and the Beast Disney fairytale, but perhaps Blair’s new affinity for all things French might make her prefer the 1946 Cocteau version of the story?

Both revolve around a beautiful girl named Belle and her romance with a Prince who has been cursed to look like a beast until true love breaks the spell. She finds herself in the Beast’s clutches because she has sacrificed herself to protect her elderly father, but in time she finds that her captor is not as beastly as he once appeared to be. The 1946 version by Jean Cocteau is slightly different from the Disney version, however, in that the Beast asks Belle to marry him every day in the hopes that she will change her mind and say yes. Meanwhile, Belle has two greedy step-sisters who plot to separate Belle from the beast and have him killed for their own gain.

Fans have been comparing story lines on Gossip Girl to this particular fairy tale since the start of the show, and 4.20 specifically referenced the story several times. Now we have a title based on it? Let the speculations begin!
